You have probably seen it posted.  The Indies Unite banner has been flying high for the past week in support of a stunning young man by the name of Joshua.  Independent author, Maxwell Cynn shared some devastating news at the end of January with all of us.  Joshua, his son of 21 years, was diagnosed with Acute T-cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia.   You can read Max’s heartwrenching story HERE.

The cancer has spread to Josh’s brain, spleen, liver, lymph nodes, and includes a mass in his chest.  His condition is serious, but after a terrifying trip to the hospital where a team of doctors were able to restart his heart after his body was traumatized by the sudden influx of radical chemotherapy, Josh is finally home resting where his long journey to recover has just begun.

Josh faces eight months of intensive chemotherapy treatment, the cost of which is quite high.  Unfortunately, while he undergoes treatment, Josh has had to postpone his college studies.  He has received a stunning 4.0 GPA towards a philosophy degree which is just out of reach.  When he recovers and is able to finish his studies, he will be the first of his family to graduate college.

The cost of kicking cancer’s firmly in the butt is astronomical.  When fellow indie writer, Eden Baylee saw Max’s news, she jumped in with both feet (and an immense heart and drive) to find a way to help Joshua and his family during these difficult times.  Along with IndieGoGo, she has set a goal for our community to raise $10K for Josh to pay his medical bills.  Only a week has gone by since the campaign began, and we are already 20% of the way to the finish line.  The support of the writing community and others is simply astounding!
